COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT)

The Community Emergency Response Team program was created to give community members some basic training in disaster survival and rescue skills which aims to improve the ability of community members to survive and to safely help others until responders or other assistance could arrive.

EL PASO LOCAL EMERGENCY PLANNING COMMITTEE

The Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) plays the critical role of providing information on existing chemical hazards in order for everyone to be better prepared to understand, manage, and respond to these potential hazards. The LEPC does this by forming partnerships between responders, local governments, communities, businesses, media, academia, and the public.

FIRE CORPS

Community members can make a difference for their local fire and EMS department. Fire Corps helps departments build more capacity by connecting them to community volunteers who can assist in a variety of non-emergency roles. MEDICAL RESERVE CORPS (MRC)

The mission of the West Texas Medical Reserve Corps is to enhance the regional response capabilities in the event of an emergency, disaster or disease outbreak by providing a coordinated response using locally recruited medical, behavioral health, public health, and health support volunteers. The Medical Reserve Corps volunteers will also work to improve the overall health preparedness and well-being of the region.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH (NWP)

This program depends on citizen involvement to prevent and discourage crime and reduce fear by taking certain home, property, and personal self-protection precautions, really getting to know and look out for neighbors, and reporting crimes and suspicious activities to the police. Neighborhood Watch in the city of El Paso is an El Paso Police Department program and the department determines its policy. Today, we have over 600 such programs, and this concept has also expanded to schools, apartments, parks, and businesses.

VOLUNTEERS IN POLICE SERVICE (VIPS)

Volunteers work in partnership with police officials in several areas, performing various duties. For example, duties such as direct crisis intervention, crime prevention/education, enforce disabled parking laws, serve as board members or mentors to Explorer programs, provide spiritual counseling, participate, participate in seasonal projects all year long, public speaking and provide clerical assistance.
