EL PASO, Texas – The Office of Emergency Management (OEM), through the use of our “Sister City” agreement, immediately made contact with counterparts in Ciudad Juarez to provide technical assistance on how to address the incident.
Discussions regarding the further assistance of resources did occur, but as the day progressed the need for those resources were no longer necessary.
The El Paso Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team performed air quality sampling throughout the city and no hazardous conditions were determined to be present.
In addition, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and the City of El Paso’s Environmental Services Department showed that the levels of particulate matter were consistent with the expected levels for the day.
The latest updates provided by Ciudad Juarez officials state that the fire is under control and about 90% contained. We will continue to maintain communication with Ciudad Juarez and monitor the event as conditions may change
